The Easy Auction Hall of Fame

Football Hero
When this was brought in, the customer and I looked at similar items on eBay while he was in the shop. The $200 to $350 selling range we discovered was not quite the $1,000 ballpark he had expected, but he was happy nonetheless when this team-signed Superbowl XXIII 49er Football sold for over $450 within the last five minutes of a week-long auction!

Smile for the Camera
When this Nikon F100 was brought in, it was clear it had been well cared for by its one owner. It and its accessories received a top bid of nearly $800.00. The seller wanted at least $1000.00 for it, so there was no sale. Still, the bidding went well and the auction featured twenty-one detailed pictures.

Not all Collectables are Created Equal
Some collectables, like Hummel figurines, for instance, can have a wide range of collector value. Often later pieces are not nearly as prized as earlier pieces, for obvious reasons. This little Hummel school girl figure, dated from during World War II, did well at $192.50, unlike latter editions of the same figure. The earlier, short-run first edition would've done even better....

Small and Worth Less?
This figure is a little over an inch tall. It is made of plastic. You may well have never seen the name Drizzt Do'Urden, much less be able to pronounce it yourself.

Nonetheless, this little guy fetched over $70.00. Maybe a simple toy to some, but apparently, worth more than its weight in gold to others. And speaking of toys...

Not So Long Ago, in an Auction from TWRF
Star Wars merchandise is a powerhouse on many fronts. The early toys can be especially attractive to collectors if they are in impeccable condition and still have their accessories, and packaging. This Rebel Command Center sold for $75, in its original box with all the pieces and documents intact. The Death Star Playset box, on its own, sold for $10. That's a 30 year old box with a successful sale. Neither case is anything to sneeze at...

The Royal Doulton figures brought in with these thimbles were expected to be the big seller, but the thimbles far surpassed them!
